From 1980s dance floors in the UK to Sunday church services in Los Angeles, California, Lyd the SBW tracks the travels of Back to Life by Soul II Soul through time and space. I first heard of Soul II Soul back in 1989 when they released their album Keep on Movin’ but they had been on the music scene in England for years before that. It was in the late 80s the UK R&B/Soul and dance music began hitting the charts in the US. I remember two things about my exposure to UK dance and R&B music. 1) Thinking it was so strange to hear black people speaking with British accents and 2) Discovering that Lisa Stansfield wasn’t black. I was 13 yrs old at the time so it didn’t really take much to blow my mind.
The SpaceTimeMusic theme music is a sample of the Ana-Tole x Jonah Christian Remix of Ready or Not by the Fugees.
