This episode is going to be chock full of samples and covers because I want to talk about a song that is celebrating its 30th anniversary on July 5th. The song I’m talking about is Bonita Applebum by A Tribe Called Quest, from their first album, released in 1990, People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm. Part of the Native Tongues hip-hop collective that included de la Soul, Monie Love, Queen Latifah and Jungle Brothers, A Tribe Called Quest helped birth the golden age of hip-hop in the 90s and Bonita Applebum led the charge.
